The
feast of the Our Lady of Assumption (Wednesday, August 15, 2012) belongs to all
those who have made great investments and lots of sacrifices in life in
obedience to the will of God, and then watched helplessly and hopelessly as the
enemies of progress and some bigots hound all these efforts, together with the
greatest treasures of their lives, into the grave and rolling a seal of stone
over it thereby foreclosing every hope of a resurrection.
If indeed there was a resurrection, then the law of life and death truly and authentically revolves around absolute obedience to the will of God. Nothing else suffices. For what is law save this!
“Perfect obedience to the will of God.”
At different times and seasons, and with regards to the positive human actors in the history of salvation, the miracles associated with perfect obedience to the will of God have always been very manifest. But this took a different dimension with the “Fiat” of the Blessed Virgin Mary when she uttered these words:
“…. let it be done to me according to your words.”
And with old Elizabeth’s official seal and stamp – “Happy is she who believes that the promises God made to her will be fulfilled” – placed over that Sacred Deed achieved by the “Fiat” of Mary, the story of a new humanity commenced. And since then, human history has never been the same again.
There are indeed some helpless and hopeless situations of life that elude all remedy and perpetually go to frustrate every formula for survival and success. And except a miracle happens, nothing again is positive, nothing again is possible and nothing again is worth living for save the option of quitting. The Blessed Virgin Mary’s situation was of this type. Check the records: a pregnancy that defied all acceptable explanations, both traditionally and medically; a husband that was compelled to toy with the papers of a justified divorce with all its implications weighing heavily upon the shoulders of an innocent, god- fearing virgin maid; the anxieties and frustrations about the weird and unconventional activities of an impostor – son; and then the shame and scandal of the cross.
Nowhere in human history has one woman’s life been specially designed and arranged by God only to be allowed by this same God for this life to be turned upside and made to accommodate some strong bouts of controversies and paradoxes for the purpose of achieving a vision and a mission that are Divine and irrevocably liberative for all peoples, nations and generations even those yet unknown and unborn. The Blessed Virgin Mary was, in her own unique way, is a co-redemptor.
It is not surprising that the Mother Church in her wisdom as the spotless bride of Christ deemed it fit to publicly and eternally acknowledge the giant contributions of this August Queen to the advancement of liberty by defining and promulgating the dogma of the Assumption of Our Lady, the Blessed Virgin Mary.
There is always a reward for obedience especially the kind that is borne by faith. Of course, not the kind of fatalism inseparably associated with bigotry or the kind that is a product of an over-arching pretentious ambition, but a habitual subscription to the Good, the Unity and the Beauty that define and at the same time condition the very fabrics of our existence as humans beings. It is this that made Mary the proud Mother of God and the Queen of Heaven.
If the biblical account of the virgin birth is correct and authentic, then it suffices that there have been, and there still are, many noble men and women- some rich, some poor- who have obeyed and sacrificed a lot in life for a cause that is absolutely divine and, at the same time, practically humanistic, yet they never knew when they obeyed or made the sacrifices. Nevertheless, this is their story. While they lived in total consciousness of God’s eternally abiding love, the world slept off and dozed away in ignorance and utter cynicism.
Not defeated, not even beaten but rather challenged even though in a very cruel manner, Pastor W.F. Kumuyi of the Deeper Life Bible Church did not zoom off to the U.S. to prostrate before Mrs Clinton. Rather he went inside, closed the door and went heavily down on his knees where he came face to face with God. That’s the face of the man that appeared on the T.V last Sunday, August 12, 2012 challenging the Church to joggle her faith and get ready for war. But “the weapons of our warfare are not carnal….” I heard Pastor Kumuyi tell the Saints from across the T.V. screen.

It takes the vigilance of a seasoned watchman- the kind. Fr Ejike Mbaka, Fr.
Tony Mario Ozelle, Pastor Tunde Bakare of The Latter Rain Assembly Church and
Pastor W.F. Kumuyi represent (among many other servants of God) – to achieve a
correct appraisal of the situation when sleeping minds and consciences are rashly
awaken to the harsh realities of terrorism and corruption in a nation enslaved
by spurious allegiance and alliances.
Of course, I know what it takes to prefer life to death, darkness to light, and falsehood to truth. It takes foolishness and chronic imbecility.
In 1914, Lord Lugard, perhaps by a sheer instinct of a colonial zeal, gathered some humanity’s lumps and tied them up together with the strings of nationhood. The historical importance of that period lies in the fact that the boat of nationhood was compelled to navigate its way through to the harbor of independence in the evil waters of colonialism. And by 1960, through a refined responsive action placed wittingly at the altar of liberty on behalf of all of us by Sir Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Sir Ahmadu Bello, the cruel structures of colonialism collapsed under the weight of patriotism and the right to self-determination. Thus, providence gave birth to a new baby – and Nigeria is the name given to it.
Constant abuse of freedom signifies, consciously or unconsciously, an invitation to anarchy and insecurity. Abuse of freedom and the attitude of crimsoned arrogance that has come to govern this abuse especially as this pertains to terrorism and corruption in Nigeria has re-asserted the urgent need for a total overhaul and re-validation of our commitment to freedom itself.
Both as individuals and as members of one ethnic group or the other, or generally as Nigerians, we are born free. And we are compelled to remain free. There is no alternative to freedom.
From 1960 till date, Nigerians have awoken to, walked and worked in freedom. If Christianity, Islam and Traditional religions are, indeed, a true religion, then it is equally true that freedom is not foreign to Nigeria.
But are we aware that the finest moment of freedom is what is defined by responsibility? While freedom avails us the opportunity to choose and act, responsibility establishes the legitimacy and validity of our free actions and choices, otherwise there was no action or choice but an effervescent altercation placed by fools for non-existent issues. Freedom and responsibility are therefore not mutually exclusive, they are mutually inclusive. Definitely, freedom is absolute but within the grounds established by responsibility.
Law exists to address the anarchy and insecurity that invade the society as a result of the abuse of freedom. Simply put, law is only a guide and a guard for all actors on the field of liberty. In Nigeria, the law takes the form of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Promulgation and administration of just, effective and functional laws is one major way to recognize the reign of liberty. But, when in addition to the abuse of freedom the law is abused and manipulated to serve a purpose other than that which it was originally designed to serve, then there is a double invitation to anarchy and insecurity.
It takes the heart with a living conscience and the courage of a lion to speak, interpret and understand responsively the language of liberty.
But, wait a minute! Does anybody hope to find a meeting point or achieve some form of reconciliation between a tender heart and the cruel instincts of the mother lion? If conscience and courage form the animating principles of liberty, then a marriage cannot just be said to be possible only but must be considered to exist indissolubly and legitimately between the two. Therefore, the mother lion is somehow married to the lamb. And from every available data, the indissolubility and legitimacy of marriage hinges mostly on love, otherwise, it is taking for granted that many lambs that are into different marriages with the lions have died very long ago having been used by the lions to quench their appetites for food-some good food at that. Walking skeletons or corpses are actually parading as beautiful brides today. Or put the other way round, cruel brutes: crocodiles, sharks, cobras, mad dogs, etc, go into marriage as a means of getting at their prey easily. If this is not the case especially in reference to our dear country Nigeria, and if we persist on the debate that an indissoluble and legitimate marriage is possible between the lamb and the lion, and that love is the meeting point between the heart with a living conscience and the courage of a lion, then true liberty is the product of that compromise between conscience and courage which took place on the grounds of love. And the compromise could not be said to have taking place at all except on the grounds of love.
In his days as the head of the military junta, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida had said:
“Not tackle a gargantuan obstacle is cowardice. To make an attempt and fail is a commendable feat. But to succeed eventually is to bequeath a glowing legacy to future generations.”
It is beholden on us all to admit that the artisans themselves - politicians, economists, etc, have failed. And as this pertains to the administration of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, and in reference to the Peoples Democratic party (PDP) being touted as the biggest and most influential party in Africa, I am compelled to make reference to a special edition of the defunct Weekly Concord Magazine when Mr Bayo Onanuga (currently of the of The News Magazine) held sway as the Editor-in-Chief around 1993. Giving the picture of the former gap – toothed dictator clinching helplessly to a white handkerchief pressed to his very tired and frustrated chin in an attempt to wipe away the tears(?) of shameful defeat that had started to flow freely and uncontrollably from his once handsome but weather-beating face, Weekly Concord’s Cover Story read:
“Has IBB Given Up?”
Today’s situation re-echoes that Weekly Concord’s Cover Story but now in reference to PDP: Has PDP given up every hope about Nigeria?
A cripple with deaf, dumb and blind situations requires a miracle to function fully as a human being. And so today, we can understand the reason for the emergence of industrial miracle workers parading themselves as pastors, evangelists, leaders, general overseers, Imams, etc. The same is also true for Islamic fundamentalists who resort to violence to demonstrate the innocence of Allah about the hopeless and helpless situation of our dear country. Surely, we need a miracle!
Over and above this is the fact that the Good Friday experience is a very strong rebuke to a Crossless Christianity.
My reason for sticking to General Muhammad Buhari is for true liberty to reign in Nigeria. And my reason for subscribing to Pastor Tunde Bakare’s lectures on the State of the Nation” is based on love – love for President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan; love for the people of the Niger Delta; love for the Igbo man; and pity for every member of this demonic party from Nebuchadnezzar’s Babylon called PDP.
Indeed some people are perpetually frustrated by-standers on the rocky road to freedom.
Liberty is the only official language of every legitimate government and the only one understood by the governed, otherwise the government is incurably dumb, the governed is deaf, everybody else is blind and the society is lame.
Nigeria is not this deaf, dumb and blind cripple that PDP wants us to believe she is.
The feast of Assumption celebrates our limitless capacity for Allah, and therefore reminds us that we are not prisoners in human flesh but co-heirs with Christ the King and with the great prophet Mohammed. We are kings or queens, princes or princesses endowed with wings which enable us to shake off every distraction and then fly to the epic of our vocations in life. For in the words of Karl Rahner, “man is Spirit- in- the world.” Therefore, you and I, indeed Nigeria as a country, have the power and the authority to overcome terrorism and corruption, and attend to the challenges of nationhood.
This feast is therefore about you and I – all those who have obeyed God in some habitual manner despite what the world is saying, or what the PDP led Government in Nigeria is saying.
The Our lady of Assumption (August 15, 2012) mandates us to a resolute demand, after the examples of Sir Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Sir Ahmadu Bello, Mr Dele Giwa, Chief M.K.O. Abiola, Chief Ghani Fawehnmi, etc, for the liberation and freedom of Nigeria.
The death of Chief M.K.O. Abiola, the widely acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 election considered to be the freest and fairest election in Nigerian history, coincided with the state visit in 1998 by one of those diplomatic underdogs. The Masters of the Martial Art are here again within our boarder to carry out an impeachment or whatever name you give to it – not excluding a high profile murder. And once the Master, that is, the real owner of the Kingdom (which Nigeria has been turned into as different from the Nation that belongs to us all) passes a vote of no confidence on the “Nurses” that attend to them, or a security vote against the Eunuchs, the Atlantic always becomes flooded, no longer with ocean waters, but with precious human blood. All it takes for everything to return to normalcy is a Review (with small “r”) that will see to the Jews and Islam being giving some Jobs. After all, our good investments with the oil magnates and our good neighbors like the oil MILLS that flood us with otedollars are dead. Thus, those GEJ will approach for funds will suddenly declare bankrupt. “Sorry GEJ” they will say, but “Goodluck!”
Again with an impeachment at The NEWS Magazine authorized by this appalling incarnate of Chief Awo of our time against the powerful vote of Mr Bayo, to TELL the story about GEJ and ADAMS, or raise a loud and powerful voice against the murderers of AKINKUOTU will be considered a compliment too costly for rebels as there were no journalists who have the facts. And because it now amounts to a taboo and a treasonable felony to watch the GEJ, ADAMS and AKINKUOTU news owing to the momentary death of Newswatch, all the media houses will be compelled to “Please come inside”. Of course, no one will want to be Mr”Chimpazee” IGWE. To reposition them for effective reporting that will bring dividends to all the new stakeholders, TELL, The News and Insider Weekly will go the way of Newswatch. Like in the banking, oil and telecom industries, the arcane purge has begun for the media houses.
Then comes the return of the heroes: ORKAH, IBORI and the making of a new Clark (Alams).
Simply put, PDP never wanted Mr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to become the substantive president of Nigeria. And the will of the people could not be allowed to prevail over the decision of a political party. Thus PDP designed the Nigeria’s political lexicon into a huge drama box with great and irrevocable costs to the electorate. First of all, contrary to the will of the people, they built Jonathan into a tragic hero, then into failure.
Mr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan typifies our collective failure as a people in search of a leader, and the paradox of our un-audited quest for the miraculous. But PDP is not our own making. There is the need – an urgent need – to stop the PDP macabre dance on the Nigerian political lexicon but it does not require or permit that President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan be disgraced by the Goliath that has come to challenge us.
Of course, I know what it takes to prefer life to death, darkness to light, and falsehood to truth. It takes foolishness and chronic imbecility.

What is required is for the Civil
Society/Labour Groups to mobilize immediately and march in full but non-violent
protest to the floor of the National Assembly and demand that the 2011 General
Elections be declared "Null and Void" but "Constitutionally
Provisional for One Year' within which Mr President is charged to conduct fresh
elections by September 2013 and then handover power on exactly October 1, 2013.
Or, in the alternative, since it is very clear that PDP is a secret cult and
therefore was not qualified to contest or field candidates for elections,
General Muhammed Buhari can go to Court and ask that he be declared the
President and commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. In this
